Global Cinema Online congratulates Maestro Shamil Aliyev whose documentary, Creators, is the official entry of Azerbaijan for an Oscar® at the 95th Academy Awards® (2023). This is the second film by Aliyev that has been submitted for consideration; his feature film Steppe Man was previously selected as the Azerbaijani entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 86th Academy Awards®.
Shamil Aliyev received the Best Director Award, for the feature film Steppe Man, at the 2020 edition of the Global Nonviolent Film Festival, and in 2021, Aliyev was a Member of the Jury at the Festival.

Synopsis: This is a story about a man with no name; one who exists and survives on the grassy plains in between Russia and northern Iran, away from civilization.
Shamil Aliyev is a screenwriter, producer, and director from Azerbaijan. He was born on June 26, 1960 in Baku. After graduating from Azerbaijan State Institute of Culture in 1989, he worked as film director at Azerbaijanfilm, the state-owned movie studio. His first feature film, Confession, was shot independently.
As director, he further worked on various national TV channels. Shamil Aliyev is the author and director of several TV projects such as Film Media, Cinematography, and Classicists and Contemporaries dedicated to such cinematographers as Alfred Hitchcock, K. Zanussi, Andrei Tarkovski and others.
In 1999 he shot his short fiction film Occasional Meeting (35mm). He is also a founder and director of NURFILM Production Center. D!
