World Premiere at the 11th Global Nonviolent Film Festival

Abyss In is a feature film from Greece directed by Yannis Aivazis and starring Stavros Parcharidis and Christine Konstantinidou. It’s the story of a lonely, isolated middle-aged man with memory issues going through a separation and divorce. To add to his problems, he has an illness or disease which necessitates a caregiver to assist him at home.

On one daily venture, the middle-aged man is about to go for a nude swim in the ocean when he is approached by Anna, his wife. He hurriedly leaves the area and unknowingly forgets his valued frame photo at the beach. When he realizes the photo is missing, a frantic search ensues.

Yannis hopes for a reconciliation which never occurs with Anna. The thought of his broken marriage brings much pain and suffering to Yannis. The final scene at the ocean’s edge creates a sense of hopelessness and despair for a man who has given up on life.

I always believed and believed that acting faithfully serves life. Clear images and us going in and out of the scenes of our lives. “What is happening to me”, asks the hero and life tells him to go on. Our abyss is so big and we are too small to face it.
